Tonagel is a licensed Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana State University and more than a decade at a major oil and gas company managing multi-million-dollar projects. Managing a family investment portfolio from 2018 drew Tonagel into alternative investing, and in 2025 Tonagel and Nicholas Soileau formed AVSM Capital.
